Behaviour Change Service
Splitz now has a Behaviour Change IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) working with ‘perpetrators’ of domestic abuse on a one to one basis. This role started at the beginning of January 2018 and is embedded in the Turnaround Integrated Offender Management Team (IOM). This involves working in partnership with the Police, Probation, Social Services and other agencies, sharing information to work towards reducing domestic abuse offending behaviour. The aim of the role is to provide specialist advice, challenge and support to those who engage in abusing others in a domestic setting, helping them to:
- Identify their unhealthy behaviour patterns;
- Understand the impact this abuse has on others, in particular children and other family members;
- Take responsibility for wanting to change their unhealthy behaviour.
As part of the behaviour change contract, the abuser’s victim will be allocated an IDVA. From July 2019 there will also be Children’s Resilience Workers that will support any children within these families.
Referrals are assessed for suitability by the IOM team. Enquires on how to refer can be made by contacting the Devon Splitz Helpdesk on 0345 155 1074.
