There is a difference between being named on the mortgage of a property and being named on the title deeds of the property. The title deeds are the legal documents that confirm who owns the property.

A mortgage is a loan to finance paying for a property. Being named on the mortgage means that you are responsible for paying it, it does not mean that you are an owner of the property. It is possible to pay a mortgage on a property and have no legal right to own, occupy or have money from it when it is sold. To be an owner of a property you have to be on the title deeds to it. Normally, if you are on the mortgage, you are also on the title deeds, but it is important to check this.
