Children's DV Support

Aim

BBC Children in Need have funded a dedicated worker whose role is to work with children who have witnessed domestic abuse.

The aim is to provide one-to-one support for children and young people (5-16 years old) who have witnessed domestic violence. There will also be group work in conjunction with other agencies (eg NCH, Barnardo's, Social Services).

Location

Kennet and Salisbury only.

Referral

Referrals taken from school staff, other agencies and parents. The criteria for referral are:

  • Mum has been a victim/survivor of domestic violence
  • Mum has identified that her child/ren are exhibiting distressing behaviour - such as being violent towards siblings and/or mum
  • The perpetrator of domestic violence has left the home
  • Mum is a lone parent/carer

Each case will be looked at and assessed individually. If a child has other issues such as ADHD, ADD, OCD, Tourettes, we will probably signpost to a more appropriate agency.

Waiting List

We operate a waiting list due to the high demand for this service. The waiting time may be 2-3 months from the date of referral. Our worker will make contact when a place becomes available.

If, in the meantime, you would like support from another organisation please contact the Children's Advice Service on 01380 871200.
